Mechanic fashion

Photobucket

People are becoming part of machines. In our civilization machinery is becoming more and more important. Could we live without it? Think about the first things you do in the morning: you switch on the light, grab something to eat out of the refrigerator, and make a cup of coffee, while turning on your computer. See, in these simple actions, you use at least 4 machines. We cannot live without them.

My new collection is a reaction to this phenomenon. I took the essence of machinery: the mechanism, the gears and combined it with fashion.

Inspiration: gears, mechanism, androids, the human body, La cite des enfant perdus, clockworks, Leather, and steampunk.

These are the sketches for the first outfits:

Over mij

Mijn foto
I’m a fashion designer and photographer. I recently graduated at the Willem de Kooning academy of Arts, in the Netherlands. After my graduation I started working on my own projects. And working as a freelance photographer.

My work is about creating a new world. I archieve this by using a combination of fashion and photography. My concepts mostly are about current events, because I think art is communication. Concepts like plastic surgery, cloning and the influence of machinery. But also less major subjects like movies, mannequins, and nature.

In my commercial work, mannequins are a big part of my photography process. With these perfect people I create an artificial world. Artificiality is also a big part of my work. In my opinion everything we create is artificial.

In my fashion I like to experiment with textiles and silhouetes. Clothing is art wich defines or deformes the human body. I do not only use textiles in my clothing but also other materials, like polyester, rubber, acryl and glass.
